The Opportunity
A great opportunity exists in our North Sydney office for a Design and Construct State Manager. This position is responsible for providing leadership to the Design and Construct teams in NSW, ACT and QLD to deliver Infrastructure Deployment projects of the Vocus Fibre network.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day
The State Manager is responsible for following best practice Design and Project Management accountabilities for the individual and the team they lead;
- Leadership – Lead a team to deliver project management accountabilities
- Understand the processes, project lifecycle and relationships between tasks and milestones, ensuring that work plans and/or Project Schedules are appropriate. Resulting in E2E delivery and performance of projects
- Understand scope management in the context of the project lifecycle and the need for clear definition throughout the project. Clearly define activities and understand scope change controls. Resulting in avoidance of Variation cost
- Understand time management within the broader project management framework and apply the appropriate tools and techniques. Understand how, when and why escalations are to occur so that Task/Milestone commitment dates are met. Resulting in on time delivery performance.
- Understand cost management in the context of the Project lifecycle and manage the Project process against the Project budget. Ensure project scope variations are managed within Procurement process. Resulting in financial governance of assigned budgets
- Understand quality management in the context of the Project. Resulting in project sign off with all technical and operational specifications met
- Understand and identify the critical phases of the Project that require specific skills and competencies, with special emphasis on Vocus WHSE policy and obligations. Resulting in demonstration of both internal and external compliance with WHSE, Environmental and Vocus requirements
- Using clear and concise communication the various elements of the Project process and provide accurate details to all stakeholders, internal/external and customers. Prepare regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders. Resulting in reporting requirements met.
- Understand risk and issue management and apply the principles to the broader Project management life cycle. Resulting in minimal cost and time variations with no incidents occurring.
- Manage and develop supplier relationships within the Vocus Procurement, WHSE frameworks whilst ensuring project specifications, budgets and timelines are met. Resulting in adherence of all legal obligations from contractor selection to project handover.
- Provide leadership to a team of Designers to deliver upon milestones and responsibilities
- Provide sales support with pre-sales designs and estimate cost for connection requests and bids
- Support nominated projects in relation to Design requirements as assigned by management
- Strategically Plan and Design the Vocus Fibre Network
- Monitor and manage network capacity creating new, network upgrade and network re-arrangement orders where required.
- Provide assistance in fault situations during business hours or as required
- Liaise with multiple stakeholders strategically to extend the Vocus Network
- Provide support to new Technology introductions.
- Comply with and monitor ‘Safety In Design’ concepts whilst designing the Vocus Fibre Network.
- Provide subject matter expert support to management and stakeholders in regards to Planning and Design Architecture and Engineering standards.
- Reporting – Provide operational reports to the General Manager on team performance on key metric in your area
Special working conditions
- Some interstate travel may be required
- This position requires after-hours availability for the management of people and operational issues
What you’ll bring to this role
Required skills & competencies
- Proven 8-10 years’ experience in Project Management,
- Previous experience in a leadership role
- Extensive experience in contractor management (internal and external plant).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to ensure consistency of standards/procedures and promote efficiencies
- Well-developed relationship building skills
- Outstanding commitment to customer service and internal & external customer experience
- Good planning, organisational, analytical and decision-making skills
- Sound administrative and time management and Problem-solving skills
- Computer literate – broad knowledge of windows/Microsoft office required
- Capability to build strong and effective working relationships with the key internal and external shareholders across different cultures.
- Contract management
- Negotiation, conflict management skills
- Previous experience in telecommunications infrastructure deployment
- Tertiary qualifications in Electronics/Communications Engineering or Project Management
