About the Role 

CMV Farms is undertaking the development of a 280-hectare pistachio orchard, alongside our existing 220-hectare property, 15km from Robinvale, Victoria.

We are looking for a Senior Farm Hand to join our growing team. Your focus will encompass all tasks associated with developing a new pistachio orchard, undertaking general operations in the mature orchard, and assisting in the nursery from time to time. You will be required to operate machinery, undertake irrigation work, and any other manual tasks as requested. Young tree work is hands-on, and you must be able to spend appropriate periods in the field when physical labour is required. You will be required to provide hands-on-training for specific tasks in the field, ensuring these tasks are carried out effectively and to budget. You will be required to work independently and in a team. You will report directly to the Operations Manager.

It is important to us that our fulltime employees are across the full growing cycle and seasonal requirements of a pistachio orchard. The job is all encompassing to each facet of the growing season and will be extremely rewarding for the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Orchard maintenance and manual tasks as required.
• Operate machinery and equipment such as tractors, forklifts, harvest equipment.
• Assist in monitoring the satisfactory maintenance of plant and machinery, both hygienically and mechanically.
• As requested, assist other team members with the operating specifications of each machine under different conditions.
• Develop an understanding of young and mature tree pruning and maintenance programs.
• Perform soil moisture monitoring through manual digs and interpretation of soil moisture data.
• Assist in water management and irrigation operations as required by the Irrigation Manager. 
• Show awareness towards pest and disease threats and communicate any concerns or questions with the Operations Manager.
• Maintain the orchard so that it can produce sustainable crops without causing long lasting and serious effects to the surrounding environment. 

Skills and Experience

• Demonstrated farm or agricultural experience.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience in operating orchard machinery.
• The ability to exercise independent judgment, as well as be part of a cohesive team, and contribute to developing a harmonious and respectful workplace.
• A high level of drive and adaptability, with the ability to a variety of tasks.
• An excellent understanding of WHS principals.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer competency.
• The ability to work under pressure and outside of normal hours as required.
• Excellent organisational, time management and interpersonal skills.
• A current driver’s licence and chemical users’ licence.
• Punctual, reliable, and adaptable in nature.
