If you are passionate about business intelligence, data strategy, and ready to develop your skills in data engineering, we want to hear from you!

About the Role

Reporting to the Data Solutions & Architect Manager, you’ll begin by leveraging your BI expertise with Microsoft BI and Azure Data tools to solve business problems through data. As you grow in this role, you'll gain more exposure to Data Engineering projects, expanding your skills across data architecture, integration, and automation, setting you up for a successful transition into a more technical, hands-on Data Engineer role.

The key responsibilities will include the following:

  • BI Focus:  Design, develop, and deploy data solutions that support business intelligence and reporting needs across both Azure and on-premise environments.
  • Data Models & Flow: Build and maintain efficient and scalable data models, datasets, and views to ensure seamless data representation.
  • Optimization & Performance: Continuously improve data integration platforms to enhance performance, availability, accessibility, and data integrity.
  • Data Engineering: As part of your development, you'll take on increasing responsibilities in data architecture, integration, and automation, preparing you for a transition into a Data Engineer role.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable BI solutions. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical issues.
  • ETL/ELT Development: Create, develop, and manage data integration, load routines, and data consolidation mechanisms following best practices.
  • Process Improvements: Identify and implement internal process improvements, including automation and optimization of data infrastructure for scalability.

To be successful you will ideally have the following:

Core BI Skills:

  • Proven experience in data design and implementation, with expert knowledge of SQL scripting and best practices. Knowledge of major DBMSs (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and specific tools (MSSMS, Oracle SQLDeveloper, HeidiSQL, etc)
  • Proficiency in SQL Queries and Optimisation (understanding joins, conditional expressions, indexing strategy, query plan analysis). Writing and managing views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers are critical.
  • Relational Database Design and Modelling (Diagrams, (de)normalization, data integrity, a solid design foundation of data storage and retrieval)
  • Data Security and Compliance (permissions, encryptions, auditing)
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft BI stack (SSIS, SSAS, Power BI, OLAP – both DAX, MDX), Data Warehousing and ETL Processes.
  • Hands-on experience with the Azure Data Platform, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks and Azure DevOps.
  • Analytical and Statistical Knowledge – comfortable with basic statistical methods and understanding business metrics and KPIs

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with Apparel21, Qlik Sense, Adobe CRM, Mailchimp, or Jedox is a plus.

Data Engineering Growth Areas:

  • Exposure to or interest in object-oriented programming and scripting languages (C#.NET, VB.NET, Java, Python, Perl, R).
  • Knowledge of API-driven data integration, including REST/SOAP.
  • Experience or desire to learn data migration planning and execution.
  • Exposure to retail-oriented architecture, data integration, or data architecture (highly desirable).

Mindset:

  • A problem-solving attitude with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • An eagerness to learn and grow within the data engineering space.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative, can-do approach.

This role is perfect for a talented BI Developer looking to grow their career and develop the skills needed to transition into a Data Engineer role.
